Department of Music

The department of Dance is established in 1995 and belongs to the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences. The department is full-fledged one with different programmes from BA to Ph.D. Presence of Musicologists and reputed professionals in the faculty. Brilliant and dedicated students. Practical Oriented Syllabus which enhances the quality of the Students and preserve the purity of the art. The Audio Visual Lab of the Department will provide added reference source for the research works related to practical music.

Apart from basic research on different topics, applied research work with inter-disciplinary approach related to discipline like education Psychology etc. are being conducted. A Music CD for the propagation of Adi Sankaracharya’s ashtakams has been released by the Department. National seminars and Concerts are being conducted for inspiring the young talents to bloom as the stars of future. The head of the Department is the convener of the Nurture Scholarship instituted by Govt.of Kerala by which different students from different institutions can interact and utilize the services of the faculty members of Department of Music.

The programmes like Ragalayam of FM, Cochin ,Sruthy layam of Amritha TV,Nadopasana of Jeevan TV and AIR concerts are the sources of generating new knowledge .The faculty members are actively participating in these great projects of the country.

About Sree Sankaracharya University of Sanskrit

The University was established two decades ago in the name of the illustrious Indian philosopher Jagad Guru Adi Sankara in his place of birth at Kalady. The basic objective of the University is to impart knowledge in various branches of Sanskrit, Indology, Indian culture, Indian and Foreign languages, Indian philosophy, Fine Arts and Social Sciences and to promote the study and research in Sanskrit and other systems of Indian knowledge.
