Rashtriya Uchchatar Shiksha Abhiyan (RUSA)
Rashtriya Uchchatar Shiksha Abhiyan (RUSA) is a Centrally Sponsored Scheme (CSS), launched in 2013 aims at providing strategic funding to eligible state higher educational institutions. The central funding (in the ratio of 60:40 for general category States, 90:10 for special category states and 100% for union territories) would be norm based and outcome dependent. The funding would flow from the central ministry through the state governments/union territories to the State Higher Education Councils before reaching the identified institutions. The funding to states would be made on the basis of critical appraisal of State Higher Education Plans, which would describe each state’s strategy to address issues of equity, access and excellence in higher education.
e-Campus (Campus Network, Campus Wi-Fi, Network Security & Data Centre)
The backbone of ICT activities belongs to a full-bodied network(LAN) which should act as the dedicated service layer of entire system. Such a system will bring the normal campus into an e-campus having full Wi-Fi activity in the campus. Already the University had a NKN connectivity having a better support in terms of service and speed in data transfer. In order to utilize such a connectivity, the intranet should be in high standard. The proposed LAN system consists of covering entire campus both in wired and in Wi-Fi mode and managed/centralized into the data center using RING architecture. It consists of OFC laying, cabling, installation of routers and firewalls and at end I/O termination.
All the envisaged prestigious and most beneficial projects that are expected to be the backbone of the University in future should work only on a strong robust ICT infrastructure with securely distributed network, centralized server management with proper monitoring of the same. The upcoming projects like Biometric Punching, CCTV, initiatives like International School for Sreesankaracharya Studies (Massive Open Online Courses - MOOC concept) etc. are based on strict systematic LAN system. At present the servers in the University is placed on different locations on the campus which lead to lack of coordination of the system and susceptible to security problems. The installation of Data center in the campus it is highly endorsed by the fact that it will reduce the costly OFC laid and enhance the fast and reliable network architecture.
Sree Sankaracharya University of Sanskrit has installed 100KW on grid Solar Power plant over the top of Academic Block II at main centre Kalady. The power plant will be commissioned within one month. Minimum 14000 units of energy per month can be produced from this solar power plant. As per the present tariff of energy, the University can save around an amount of Rs.80000/- per month and around 50% of fuel consumption of the diesel generator can be reduced by the use of 100KW solar power plant. The electric energy from this proposed solar power plant can be used to cater the need of entire campus of the University during day time. Total 400 Nos. of Solar Panels have been used to produce 100KW power and each panel has 250W capacity. Almost 600 m2 roof top area is used to install the power plant. Solar Modules are warranted for performance of 90% up to the end of 10 years and 80% upto the end of 25 years.
