Regional Campus - Thrissur

The Thrissur Regional Campus of Sree Sankaracharya University started with the inaugural ceremony on 26th June 1996 at Vivekodayam School Campus. Eminent personalities like Panditharajan K.P. Narayana Pisharody. Swami Mridanandaji, Sri. V.V. Raghavan the then M.P of Thrissur, the first Hon’ble Vice Chancellor and Chief Secretary to Govt. of Kerala, Sri. R. Ramachandran Nair participated in the inaugural function. Right from the inception of the centre three P G Departments (Sanskrit Sahitya, Malayalam and Hindi) with sanctioned student strength of 30 students (in each Department) are functioning. P.G. Department in Sanskrit Nyaya was introduced in 2005. At Present these four departments are offering P G Courses in the respective subjects. Through a small centre with only four PG Departments, the centre has shown excellence in academic as well as in other cultural, social and extracurricular activities. Thrissur being the cultural capital of Kerala and with Institutions like Kerala Sahitya Academy, Sangeetha Nataka Academy there is ample scope for the development of the centre. The centre has always been proving that it has got the necessary potential for a meaningful and healthy growth.

Location of the campus and area:

The city of Thrissur is situated in Thrissur District of Central Kerala in India. The city is located at 10.52°N 76.21°E and has an average altitude of 2.83 metres. The city is 75 km north-east of Kochi, 133 km south-west of Coimbatore and 144 km south-east of Kozhikode. The City is located in a hillock called Thekkinkadu Maidan which is the second highest point in City after the Vilangan Hills. Thrissur is also known as the Cultural Capital of Kerala because of its cultural, spiritual and religious leanings throughout history. It houses the Kerala Sangeetha Nadaka Academy, Kerala Lalithakala Akademi and Kerala Sahitya Academy. The distance from Kalady, the main centre to Thrissur is 1.00hrs (42Kms).

About Sree Sankaracharya University of Sanskrit

The University was established two decades ago in the name of the illustrious Indian philosopher Jagad Guru Adi Sankara in his place of birth at Kalady. The basic objective of the University is to impart knowledge in various branches of Sanskrit, Indology, Indian culture, Indian and Foreign languages, Indian philosophy, Fine Arts and Social Sciences and to promote the study and research in Sanskrit and other systems of Indian knowledge.
