Department of Sanskrit Vyakarana

About the Department

The Department of Sanskrit Vyakarana at Sree Sankaracharya University of Sanskrit, Kalady (SSUS), was established in 1993, soon after the founding of the University itself. The Department forms part of the Faculty of Sanskrit Grammar and was created to promote systematic study, teaching and research in the classical grammatical tradition of Sanskrit (Vyakarana).

Its academic activities focus on strengthening students' mastery of Sanskrit grammar, traditional grammatical texts and linguistic analysis, preparing them both for advanced scholarship and for participation in traditional forums like Vakyartha-samsadas.

The Department also engages in communicative Sanskrit classes to improve practical language skills and collaborates with cultural and scholarly organisations to propagate Sanskrit learning in Kerala.

Its curriculum integrates both classical and contemporary aspects of Sanskrit grammar and offers interdisciplinary courses, contributing to the broader objectives of the University in preserving and promoting Sanskrit language and literature.
