The Department of Geography, Sree Sankaracharya University of Sanskrit has been in the academic portfolio of the University since its inception in 1994. The Department was a part of the Three Main Under-Graduate Programme offered by the University in the early stages. The Department since 2009 has initiated an advanced Research Programme including MPhil and PhD programmes in Geography. Within a short span of time, the Department has achieved a place of eminence in research and teaching. In 2014, the Department started an all-new and innovative Masters Programme in Geography, which was one of the major leaps in the history of the Department. Geography, as a discipline that combines the natural sciences and social sciences, can boast of the symbiotic relationship between the natural and social worlds.

Critical Geography, Feminist Geography, Urban Geography, Political Ecology and the applied fields like Disaster management, Natural Resource Management, Geographical Information System and Remote Sensing, and applied Geomorphology.
