About the Centre for Museum Studies

Centre for Museum Studies under Sree Sankaracharya University of Sanskrit was founded in the year 2020. The course is uniquely suited for southern states of India due to the absence of a course for Museum Studies in the region. The culturally rich southern India has many museums, cultural heritage institutions and has much scope for more such museums being established. It is the first instance of post-graduation course in Museology being offered at university level in South India. The Centre develops the skills and knowledge of students needed in the field of museology. It provides knowledge regarding various museums and their functioning, tangible and intangible heritage. It also promotes freedom of inventive initiatives of its students in the field, tries to open their mind to take in the challenges of the field, be of use for museums and cultural heritage in need.

History and philosophy of museums, Acts related to cultural property, New museology, Digital Heritage, Inclusive museology, Documentation, Research Methodology,  Material Culture Studies, Archaeology, Epigraphy, Numismatics, Art Philosophy, Indian Art History, Art Historical Methodology, Problems in Art, Display Methods and principles, Exhibition and its designing, principles and problems of different museum set up, Museum Interpretation, Museum Education,  Educational programmes, Museum extension programmes, Museum publication, Museum Public Engagement, Visitor Studies, Sanskrit and Allied Systems of Knowledge, Indian architecture, Sanskrit Knowledge traditions, Sanskrit and Performing Arts.
