DEPARTMENT OF PHILOSOPHY
The Curriculum of MA comprised of major philosophical traditions of the world such a Early Greek Philosophy, Modern European philosophy, Contemporary western philosophical traditions such as analytical, continental philosophies, Upanishadic tradition, Vedantic tradition, Buddhist and Jaina traditions, Indian materialism and so on as core courses and philosophy of gender, body, language, science, aesthetics etc as optional courses. It also contains core courses in Ethics and Logic.
Philosophy as as discipline is existing in this university since 1994 as part of the BA triple main program. But it as a department has come into being in the year 1997 with the introduction of MA Philosophy Program. The Department started offering Mphil and PhD programs since 2002. Being a Sanskrit University, which gives predominant consideration to humanities subjects, almost all the major departments in it, requires referring to philosophical theories as part of their research works. Philosophy department therefore functions as a platform for dissemination of interdisciplinary knowledge.
