About the Department
Sree Sankaracharya University of Sanskrit Kalady was established in 1993 in the name of the great exponent of Advaita Vedanta, Sri Sankaracharya at his birthplace, Kalady. The main objectives of the University are the promotion of Sanskrit Language, Literature, Indology, Indian philosophy, and Cultural Traditions of India.
The department of Sanskrit Vedanta belongs to the Faculty of Indian Metaphysics.The philosophy of Advaita Vedanta presented systematically by the great Acharya Sankara, is the most valuable contribution of India to the world . The relevance and importance of the universal principle of mutual love, co-operation, religious tolerance etc. are the only means to attain world peace and human welfare.
In the Department, serious studies on the teachings of Vedanta are going on. Several National and International seminars, workshops are being conducted for exploring, reserving and propagating this great Advaita tradition .This department also organised a series of eminent lectures on pertaining topics of Advaita under the title ‘‘Sree Sankara Annual Lecture”.
A galaxy of traditional Scholars and intellectuals from all over the world were invited to these Seminars and other academic events . At the core we try to maintain the motto ‘‘All humanity is One” Our mission is to preserve this unique spirit and to spread its fragrance to every nook and corner of the whole world.
All the religious leaders and social reformers aim at the transformation of spirituality into practice. The Department of Vedanta is also incessantly working for thriving for the fruits of this spiritual transformation and its practical application, ultimately the well-being of humanity as a whole.
The Department of Sanskrit Vedanta is the first Department established in the University in 1993. Since then, many eminent scholars have been part of the faculty, and many of our alumni are presently working in different University Departments and colleges in Kerala.
PROGRAMS OFFERED
The Department offers various programs PhD, M.A Sanskrit Vedanta B.A Sanskrit Vedanta ( 3 Year) and B.A Sanskrit Vedanta (Honours/ Honours With Research) in FYUG Program. It has offered M.Phil in sanskrit vedanta until 2022 which was commenced in 1993.
RESEARCH (PhD)
Phd program started in 1995 and has produced 70 PhDs. There are 60 live scholars pursuing PhD.

M.A Sanskrit Vedanta started in 1993. It is offered at main campus Kalady and regional campuses at Koyilandy, Panmana and Thiruvananthapuram. Department offers elective courses for students from other disciplines.

THREE-YEAR B A VEDANTA
Three-year B A Vedanta started in 2006. UG programmes are offered at Main centre Kalady and regional Campuses at Koyilandy, Panmana and Thiruvananthapuram. Department offers Open courses to students from other disciplines.
FOUR YEAR B.A Sanskrit Vedanta (Honours with Research)
Four-Year B A Vedanta started in 2006. It is offered at the Main centre Kalady and regional Campuses at Koyilandy, and Panmana. Department offers a Minor program in Vedanta at main campus Kalady and Regional campuses.
