The Centre for Translation Studies was established in 2003.  The MPhil programme was introduced in the year of Centre’s establishment and the PhD programme was started in 2006. 
Dr. Prameela K P, of Dept. of Hindi, served as its coordinator for a period of fifteen years until her VRS in July, 2018. 
Dr. V G Gopalakrishnan, also of Dept. of Hindi, took up the charge in September 2018 and carried out his duties as its coordinator till his retirement in April,2020.
Dr. Sajitha K R, took up the charge in April  and carried out her duties as its coordinator till his retirement in April, 2024.
 
Dr. P H Ibrahim Kutty of Dept. of Hindi, currently holds the chair of the coordinator of Centre for Translation Studies.
 
45 students have completed M Phil in Translation studies so far. 
4 students have completed their PhD. Those who have completed the course and left the campus are working in various government/semi government organizations.

The Centre aims to propagate, popularize and promote interdisciplinary research and practice in the field of translation studies, and to improve the linguistic skills and practical knowledge of translation between Indian and foreign languages among the students. 

The Mission of the Centre is to strengthen the research environment for the promotion of quality learning in Translation Studies, and to empower scholars through the provision of qualitative infrastructure to improve linguistic skill and practical knowledge of translation between Indian and foreign languages.

Ph.D.:
JRF holders in Humanities subjects may apply and appear for an interview without sitting for entrance examination. Direct PhD candidates with or without NET, with fifty percent or above pass mark in Post Graduate Subject in the field of Humanities may apply for this interdisciplinary course. Admission to the course is subject to securing fifty percent or above pass marks in the entrance examination, and the decision of the Research Committee based on the review of the working synopsis submitted, and the discussion on it during the Committee. 
 
The Centre is helped by faculties from language departments such as Sanskrit, Hindi, Malayalam and English. 
 
The centre has an up-to-date syllabus for M Phil course, with inter-disciplinary approach. 
 
Board of Studies for the Centre For Translation Studies consists of the Heads of the Departments of Sanskrit Sahitya, Hindi, English and Malayalam with the Dean of the Faculty of Indian Languages as its Chair.
Departments of English and Hindi, along with the Departments of Malayalam and Sanskrit Sahitya provides research guide for MPhil scholars working on respective subject cum language.
